The Atlanta Braves won a battle of World Series teams to trade for left-hander Denny Neagle, sending three prospects to the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 14-game winner.

Anxious to replace the injured Steve Avery in their rotation, the Braves outbid the Cleveland Indians by giving up minor-league slugger Ron Wright, outfielder Corey Pointer and another player, possibly Brave right-hander Jason Schmidt (3-4, 6.75 earned-run average) who cannot be traded while he is on the disabled list.

Wright, 20, has 36 homers for Class A Durham and double-A Greenville. Pointer, 20, has 15 for Class A Macon and rookie league Class A Eugene.
