Containing Costs at Pierce College

Share

I find it intriguing that you select as a topic for On the Issues “Should Pierce Stop July 4 Fireworks,” Aug. 27. Of the four opinions given, the college president and the Woodland Hills Homeowners Assn. seem mildly against the fireworks and a councilwoman and Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce mildly in favor. What nonsense! All this discussion about saving less than $55,000. That’s from a budget of well over $10,000,000.

How about the question, “Should Pierce Get Rid of the Useless Agriculture Department?” The only groups in favor of retaining the Agriculture Department are the agriculture faculty and the Woodland Hills Homeowners Assn., which cares more about their property values than about the Pierce budget or the education of Pierce students.

Let’s tell Pierce President [E. Bing] Inocencio that the way to get the college out of the hole is not by cutting out the fireworks but by taking an objective look at the college curricula.
