RICHMOND, Va. — A husband and wife who rushed to a hospital with three friends who had been shot, were then themselves gunned down in the emergency room after the shooter followed them there, authorities said.
The wife was killed and the husband was reported in stable condition Tuesday. One of the wounded friends also died.
The attacker, identified as Dawn Patricia Cooper, 42, the man’s ex-wife, was wounded by an off-duty police officer working as a security guard at Chippenham Medical Center.
Cooper was hospitalized in stable condition. She was charged Tuesday with two counts of capital murder, three counts of aggravated assault and use of a firearm in a felony, police said.
The three who were taken to the hospital had been shot during a quarrel at a house on Richmond’s south side Monday, authorities said.
“It was a domestic situation that spilled over into the hospital,” hospital spokesman John Mitchell said.
