Hazardous Materials Probe Closes Road
A hazardous materials crew from the Ventura County Fire Department was investigating a barrel Friday night that had been left on the side of the road near Rose Avenue and California 118 south of Saticoy, authorities said.
At 8:15 p.m., the unit responded to determine the contents of the 55-gallon drum, a spokeswoman said. The contents had to be identified before a road maintenance crew from the Ventura County Public Works Agency could remove he barrel, she said.
About 8:40 p.m., the California Highway Patrol closed a 1 1/2-mile stretch of Rose Avenue as a precaution.
The road remained closed at about 10 p.m. and the Fire Department had not yet identified the contents.
