Road Extension to Ahmanson Ranch
Re “Ahmanson Adds 14 Feet to Road,” Aug. 22.
How can this be? Why is an L.A. County judge forcing the city of Calabasas to let Ahmanson extend Las Virgenes / Malibu Canyon Road to the proposed Ahmanson development in Ventura County? The traffic from this will gridlock commuters on the Ventura Freeway. No mitigation was required of Ahmanson to ease this burden on commuters.
Residents of the Conejo, Las Virgenes and West San Fernando valleys appear to be losing out in the courts. The Ahmanson Ranch is owned by powerful Home Savings of America. Home Savings’ PAC has filled the politicians’ coffers with contributions.
People have poured in stacks of letters and postcards to the CEO of Home Savings asking him to sell the ranch as a park. This would fill the critical need for a park for 15 million residents of the greater Los Angeles area. Even though Home Savings continues to ignore the wishes [voiced in] these letters and postcards, people do have power. People can apply economic pressure on this “billionaire bully” [by] not using Home Savings for banking until Home Savings abandons plans to destroy this ranch and our open space forever.
