They Don’t Buy Dole-Kemp Ticket

Bob Dole, don’t spend your money at the beach. The half-empty stands at your Aug. 30 Orange County Fairgrounds rally illustrate the power of the Republican Party here in ’96 and confirm, once more, that California is Clinton-Gore country!

* Jack Kemp appeared at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa Aug. 30. We in Costa Mesa have not forgotten the negative impact that Kemp had on our city while he was secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Our federal tax dollars were being directly used to help illegal aliens. These dollars were in the form of Community Development Block Grant money distributed through HUD. A proposal was made to stop federal funding of organizations that were directly providing aid to illegal aliens by requiring those organizations to check for residency status of the clientele that they served. Kemp said that it was his opinion that should Costa Mesa start checking for residency status, all of our grant would be cut.

This fact was reported in our local newspapers, and I attended the City Council meeting when it was reported by Councilman Peter Buffa. This act by Kemp effectively ended our chances for control of these illegal alien magnet organizations in our city. We have had to live with the overburdened school system, hospitals and neighborhoods ever since. Kemp also was against Proposition 187. I am a conservative Republican that thinks that Kemp is part of the “big government” status quo problem and not the solution.
