1995 in Review
Los Alamitos began the year as the top-ranked team in the nation, but lost it--along with the Sunset League title--to Esperanza in the sixth week of the regular season. The Griffins finished second, ahead of Fountain Valley.
The Aztecs were upset in the first round of the playoffs, losing to Redlands. Fountain Valley exited quickly when Los Angeles Loyola beat the Barons for the second time that season.
Los Alamitos would reach the Division I semifinals before bowing to Loyola. But the Griffins were able to extract some playoff revenge by defeating to Mater Dei, 23-14, in the quarterfinals. The year before, the Monarchs ended the Griffins’ 47-game unbeaten streak with a 28-24 semifinal victory.
Los Alamitos receiver Tony Hartley set county records for reception yardage in a career (3,178) and single season (1,687). His 86 receptions tied him for second on the all-time single-season list, and the 28 career touchdowns places him third all-time.
Feterik ended his career with the fourth-best passing yardage in county history (6,222), and his 58 touchdown passes tied him for third all-time.
