Fox Aiming for ‘Independence Day’ Video Record: The company predicted it will sell more than 20 million units domestically of the hit summer film about an alien invasion, which would be a record for a live-action film and on par with some of Disney’s animated hits. Fox Video moved the release date up from next spring to Nov. 22, in time for the Christmas season. The company plans an initial shipment of 22 million videos. As a result, there are no marketing tie-ins with other companies. Bob DeLellis, president of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, said the movie doesn’t need that kind of marketing support, given the event-like status Fox hopes to create for the video release. The video sales market is expected to be highly competitive this holiday season, with such films as “Toy Story,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Twister” and “The Nutty Professor” being priced to sell rather than to rent.
