Pepperdine Sweeps, Stays Unbeaten

The Pepperdine women’s volleyball team remained undefeated Friday with a three-game sweep at Pittsburgh.

Nicole Sanderson had 24 kills in the Waves’ 16-14, 15-11, 15-12 victory. Carrie Romer and Karen Benkovsky added 13 and 11 kills, respectively, for Pepperdine (5-0), which got 53 assists from setter Becci Roehl.

Loyola Marymount d. CS Northridge, 15-5, 10-15, 15-9, 17-15--The Lions showered 87 kills at the Matadors, 24 by Kim Blankenship, in the second round of the Arizona tournament. Getty Dimtrova had 18 kills and Nancy Ma 16 for Northridge (0-8). In a first-round match, Arizona defeated the Matadors, 15-10, 15-11, 15-7.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Campbell Hall 9 (78 games), Louisville 9 (74)--Singles player Stephanie Carapetian and the doubles team of Faith Scher and Maya Shammas helped the host Vikings (1-0) overcome a 5-0 deficit in the nonleague opener for both teams.

Junior varsity doubles players Lina Shammas and Rachel Bulling, filling in for varsity teammates observing Rosh Hashanah, won a match to help Campbell Hall win on points.

HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO

Flintridge Prep 9, La Puente 0--Wes Carroll scored three goals and John Seaver added two as Flintridge Prep (2-0) shut out visiting La Puente (1-1) in a nonleague match.

Ventura 13, Oxnard 9--Brothers Jeff and Chad Caldwell each scored three goals to lead the Cougars (1-1) in pool play of the Thousand Oaks tournament. Goalkeeper Evan Clayton had 10 saves for Ventura, which lost an earlier game to Crespi, 9-6.

COLLEGE WATER POLO

Ventura 13, San Diego Mesa 5--Rodrigo Fernandes scored four goals and Bill Bruininga and Tim Rhodes each added two goals to help the Pirates improve to 5-2-1.

Goalkeepers Paulo Teixeira and Curtis Tolmie combined for 14 saves. In an earlier game, Ventura lost to Golden West, 8-6.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 2, Fresno Pacific 1--Paul Dojo scored off a pass by Bryan Lee in the 89th minute of play to lift the Mustangs (3-1-1) to a nonconference victory at Fresno Pacific. Joel Murphy scored in the first half. Goalkeeper Kris Bage had four saves.

Moorpark 3, South Mountain (Ariz.) 1--Curtis Silverreft, Joey Medaglia and Arron Bettendorf scored goals for the Raiders (1-0), and Bettendorf had an assist in a nonconference match at Santa Barbara City College.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Oregon 3, CS Northridge 1--The Ducks built a 3-0 lead before reserve Heather Schou scored a meaningless goal in the 63rd minute. Midfielder Louisa Lakos scored on two of her three shot attempts for Oregon.
