Times Writers Honored

Several Times food writers and critics were recognized in the recent awards given out by the Assn. of Food Journalists at the group’s annual conference in Napa Valley.

Times Deputy Food Editor Russ Parsons won first place for his In the Kitchen features in the columns category.

In addition, Times restaurant critic S. Irene Virbila, with the support of Times reviewers Max Jacobson, Michelle Huneven and Jonathan Gold, won second place in the series category for the feature “Critics Night Out,” which ran in the Los Angeles Times Magazine.

Times staff writer Daniel P. Puzo won second place in the food news reporting category for his Food cover story “A Food Safety Primer.”

The Times Food section received honorable mention in the best section competition.
