In one of the oddest estate sales in memory, officials Saturday began selling off the remnants of 50 years of Cleveland Browns history--from former Owner Art Modell’s luxury toilet to splintered bleacher seats--at Cleveland Stadium to clear the way for the arrival of a new franchise in three years.

Considering that Modell left Cleveland without a football team when he moved the franchise to Baltimore, his toilet might be put to good use when sold.

Banners hung from the upper deck represented every NFL franchise except one: the Baltimore Ravens.

Remember when? After Arizona State upset top-ranked Nebraska, 19-0, Saturday night, Sun Devil Coach Bruce Snyder said: “This might be the biggest win I’ve ever been involved in.”

To jog Snyder’s memory, he was a USC assistant coach in 1974, when the Trojans overcame a 24-0 deficit to Notre Dame to win 55-24, scoring 35 points in the third quarter.

At least his name is spelled correctly.

Deadmarsh was spelled “Deadmarch” on the Stanley Cup trophy, something NHL historians say never happened before.

Who goofed? When Northern Illinois Coach Joe Novak was asked how Penn State got on this year’s football schedule, he said: “The previous AD. We’re still hunting him down.”

For good reason since the out-manned Huskies from DeKalb, Ill., were routed, 49-0, on Sept. 16 by the Nittany Lions.
