CHP to Hollywood

Share

* I was surprised when I read that Gov. Pete Wilson was sending 17 California Highway Patrol officers to crack down on gang and drug activities on Hollywood Boulevard (Sept. 15), because I rarely see them anymore on the freeways and highways and assumed they were another victim of budget cuts.

I would recommend that the few officers who are left remain where they belong--on the highways. Since speed limits have been raised, it is frightening to drive in California. One has to drive at least 10 mph over the posted limit to survive; and even when one is driving at this unsafe speed, many drivers still tailgate and weave in and out of traffic going 20 to 30 mph over the limit to get around you. The Highway Patrol needs to stay on the roads maintaining a high profile to keep highways safe and driver-friendly and leave drug enforcement to others.
