Identity Crisis: The band Weezer says it named its new album “Pinkerton” after a character in the Puccini opera “Madame Butterfly.” But the title isn’t music to the ears of Encino-based Pinkerton’s Inc. “You can’t just go around infringing on a corporation’s identity,” said spokesman Dereck Andrade. . . . Pinkerton got a court order against Geffen Records to halt release of the album, but it may have been too late: The album already is on its way to stores. . . . So stand by for more court action. And it ain’t over till the fat lady sings.

Sole Survivor: Freelance TV cameraman J.D. Orozco found himself on the other side of the lens in Sherman Oaks on Tuesday as he told reporters the harrowing tale of a weekend plane crash in Kern County that killed two of his friends and a flight instructor. . . . Orozco, 26, suffered burns over 25% of his body before extricating himself from the flaming wreckage (B1).

Walkers: A Studio City beauty shop with just five employees has registered more participants--460 so far--for Sunday’s AIDS Walk Los Angeles than a host of major corporate sponsors. . . . “We just asked everyone who came in to ask five of their friends,” said owner Paul McKay, above (B3).

Facing Charges: The California Highway Patrol says drunk-driving charges should be filed against Emmy-award winning actor Kelsey Grammer (B4). . . . The star of “Frasier” crashed his 1994 Dodge Viper on Saturday night in Agoura Hills, the CHP said. Cut on his forehead, Grammer, 40, had to crawl out of the demolished auto.
