Identity Crisis: The band Weezer says it named its new album “Pinkerton” after a character in the Puccini opera “Madame Butterfly.” But the title isn’t music to the ears of Encino-based Pinkerton’s Inc. “You can’t just go around infringing on a corporation’s identity,” said spokesman Dereck Andrade. . . . Pinkerton got a court order against Geffen Records to halt release of the album, but it may have been too late: The album already is on its way to stores. . . . So stand by for more court action. And it ain’t over till the fat lady sings.

Sole Survivor: Freelance TV cameraman J.D.
