Explodable Case Stolen From Truck

Share

A thief may have gotten more than he bargained for when he stole a black and blue case out of a Camarillo man’s pickup truck.

The mysterious case could explode if tampered with, according to police.

The device is used to test soil and contains explosive gas, said Sgt. Bryan MacDonald of the Oxnard Police Department.

Smoking around it could set it off, MacDonald said.

The case, described as having hoses and wires attached to it, was stolen from the bed of a pickup truck owned by Donald Lee Tharpe about 4 p.m. Wednesday. Tharpe’s truck was parked in front of the Home Depot at 2500 Vineyard Ave. in Oxnard. He could not be reached for comment.

Anyone who comes across the device is asked to call either the Oxnard Police Department or the Oxnard Fire Department.
