Substance Abuse Policy Changed

The NHL has introduced a substance abuse policy in which players can seek help the first time without being exposed or suspended.

The NHL had been criticized for its old policy, whereby players were suspended automatically for alcohol or drug abuse. Suspension terms were left to the commissioner’s discretion. The policy doesn’t call for mandatory drug testing.
