Cost Estimates Climb for Repairing Adobe

Share

A damage survey report for the historic Reyes Adobe has estimated the costs to return the oldest structure in Agoura Hills to its pre-Northridge earthquake condition at a minimum of $75,000.

The city had initially estimated the damage to be approximately $50,000.

The adobe, built in 1820, was the only building in Agoura Hills deemed temporarily uninhabitable because of the earthquake.

Mayor Ed Corridori said the city would like to see the adobe repaired as soon as possible.

“It’s a great resource for the community,” he said. “It’s a piece of the local history and the value of that is difficult to quantify. You want to protect it and not lose that value.”

The adobe had been closed to the public prior to the Jan. 17, 1994 earthquake because it was being refurbished by Agoura Hills and the Las Virgenes Historical Society.

Agoura Hills now expects to send the repair project out to bid on Oct. 16.
