2 Hurt as Big Rig Overturns on Freeway

Share

A big rig hauling a load of glue struck a center divider and overturned Friday, shutting down traffic in four southbound lanes on the San Diego Freeway for more than three hours, authorities said.

About 12:15 p.m., a red sedan traveling south on the freeway near Lake Forest Drive veered from the slow lane in front of the 18-wheeler, prompting the truck driver to make a quick left to avoid a collision, California Highway Patrol officers said. But the truck driver struck a center divider, causing the truck to land on its side, officers said.

The truck driver and the driver of the red car were hospitalized with minor injuries. About 40 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the freeway, and authorities had to shut down all but one lane for cleanup. The road reopened about 3:45 p.m.
