Stanton Ave. Repair Work to Begin

City workers are about to begin an ambitious improvement of Stanton Avenue, and motorists may find themselves facing detours on various stretches of the heavily traveled street through March.

But Public Works Director Donald K. Jensen said it will be worth it in the end.

“It will look like a brand-new street,” he said. “We will be able to eliminate some notorious dips on Stanton at 7th Street. Those have been a problem for a long time.”

The $1.6-million project includes repaving the street’s surface and repairing curbs and gutters on Stanton. New storm drains will allow for easier driving during the rainy season, Jensen said.

Workers will also install new traffic lights at some intersections.

As the Stanton Avenue project begins, workers will be completing a yearlong project on Dale Street. The segment between Artesia and Malvern avenues has been closed since January while workers aligned it with Burlingame Avenue.

Workers will be laying the new road between now and December, then new landscaping will complete the $8.5-million public works project, officials said.
