Northridge Unbeaten in Big Sky Volleyball

Nicki Midwin had a career-high 13 kills to lead Cal State Northridge past Montana, 15-5, 15-12, 15-6, in a Big Sky Conference women’s volleyball match Saturday night at Northridge.

Nancy Ma added 10 kills and 13 digs for the Matadors (4-8, 4-0), the only undefeated team in conference play. It was the eighth consecutive double-double for Ma, a sophomore transfer from the University of Zheng Zhou in China.

Getty Dimitrova had 13 kills and five digs for Northridge, and setter Heather Hofmans had 38 assists and six digs.

Montana is 4-8 and 1-3.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY

Lagoon Invitational--Junior Victor Ochoa and senior Terrah Chapin of Nordhoff won the boys’ and girls’ individual titles in the non-scoring meet at UC Santa Barbara.

Ochoa clocked 15 minutes 43 seconds over the three-mile course to defeat Eric Gans of Dos Pueblos by 15 seconds, and Chapin led Nordhoff to a 1-2-3 sweep in the girls’ race.

Chapin, who finished sixth in the State Division III championships last year, timed 19:00 to turn back defending state champion Elaine Canchola (19:02) and Bridie Hatch (19:35).

Bell-Jeff Invitational--Seniors Tim Leahy of Burbank and Andrea Neipp of Highland posted the second-fastest times of the meet in winning their Division II races at Griffith Park.

Leahy clocked 15:15 over the 2.8-mile course to lead the Bulldogs to a 44-60 victory over West Los Angeles University.

Neipp, who finished third in the State Division I championships last year, timed 17:58 to hand San Marcos sophomore Robin Scott (18:04) her first loss of the season and lead Highland to a 45-73 victory over the Royals.

USC 16, Pepperdine 5--The second-ranked Trojans (6-1, 1-0) built a 10-0 lead in the first half en route to a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory at Pepperdine.

Sophomore driver Christian Jensen scored three points for the No. 7-ranked Waves (2-5, 0-2), who have lost their last three games.

Valley 16, Pierce 10--Steve Taylor scored four goals for the Monarchs (4-6-1) in the fourth-place game of the Cypress tournament.

Roger Wright was one of five players for Valley who scored two goals.
