Restaurants Help Fight Domestic Violence

Several local restaurants will donate a portion of their receipts each Thursday of this month to the Haven Hills shelter for victims of domestic violence. The restaurants will be donating about 10% of their receipts, shelter officials said.

The program, called Let’s EAT (End Abuse Today), will collect money from nine restaurants to help fund the shelter’s counseling and transitional housing programs.

The nonprofit group, established in 1977, relies on monetary donations to keep its programs running.

“A lot of our support comes from the community, businesses and individuals,” said Assistant Director Sara Berdine.

“It’s become increasingly harder to raise money because people just don’t have the money they did in the past. So we rely more on communitywide fund-raisers.”

The participating restaurants are Barbata’s Steak House in Woodland Hills, Caffe Pucci in Northridge, International House of Pancakes in Van Nuys and Panorama City, Mamma Lucia’s in Granada Hills, Rimini in Van Nuys, Volare Ristorante in Northridge and the Good Earth restaurants in Glendale and Northridge.
