They Strike Playful Notes in Schools
The Philharmonic Society of Orange County began an educational concert tour this week to elementary schools across the county.
Students from Glen Yermo Elementary School in Mission Viejo were treated to music by a brass quintet Tuesday as part of the society’s “Meet the Musicians” program.
Various brass, percussion, string and woodwind groups will be giving live 40-minute performances for audiences of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students.
During the performances, the musicians play familiar TV and movie theme songs, as well as talk about the history of their instruments and answer questions from the students.
The youth program, celebrating its 25th year, is presented free of charge to the schools and funded with donations raised by Philharmonic Society volunteers.
