Ice Dogs Open Season in Long Beach
The Ice Dogs open their first season in the Long Beach Arena tonight against the International Hockey League-champion Utah Grizzlies at 7.
The Ice Dogs, who have a limited affiliation with the Mighty Ducks, played at the Los Angeles Sports Arena last year, but poor attendance prompted Fred Comrie to sell the team near midseason. Television producer Barry Kemp bought the team and announced the move to Long Beach.
The Ice Dogs finished last in the Southwest Division at 32-36-14.
John Van Boxmeer returns as coach. Defenseman Dan Lambert is the top returning player.
