YANKEES 5, ORIOLES 4, 11 innings
Yankee outfielder Bernie Williams hit .467 with three homers and five RBIs in the division series victory over Texas, and he got a nice jump on an encore Wednesday night.
Williams knocked in a run with a first-inning groundout, doubled during the Yankees’ seventh-inning scoring rally, drew two walks and hit the game-winning homer against the Baltimore Orioles.
“I’m just like a surfer riding the wave,” said Williams, a late-blossoming 28-year-old who has emerged as one of baseball’s biggest stars. “I feel pretty good right now. I’ve waited a long time to play at this level. I’m having fun now.”
Williams is turning into an October legend in New York. Fans left Yankee Stadium chanting “Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!”
