Supervisors Approve Model Film Ordinance

The Board of Supervisors has approved a resolution supporting a “model municipal film ordinance” developed by the Orange County Film Commission.

Officials hope that cities will adopt the ordinance, which is designed to streamline the permit process for companies that film in the county.

Stanton recently approved the ordinance, and officials said that Westminster and Orange will soon consider it.

“We hope this makes it easier for companies to come in and film in the county,” said Supervisor Jim Silva, who proposed the resolution approved Tuesday.

The ordinance addresses issues such as use of police, closure of streets and hours of operation.

“It was drafted with the intent of being flexible for cities to tweak with their own rules,” said Ron Strom, an aide to Silva. “The cities can plug in their own numbers for fees.”

The ordinance is part of a larger effort by the Film Commission to lure more television and motion-picture business.
