Buena 35, San Marcos 17--Brady Phelps rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns in 23 carries and caught a touchdown pass to lead the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1) past the Royals (1-4, 0-2) at San Marcos.
Phelps scored on runs of three and 66 yards. His second touchdown run, 18 seconds into the second half, gave Buena a 27-3 lead.
Bulldog quarterback Jeff Taladay passed to Phelps for an 18-yard touchdown with 1:36 to play in the first half. Taladay completed 10 of 13 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. He completed all seven of his first-half passes.
Buena sacked San Marcos quarterback Bradley Van Pelt five times and intercepted two Royal passes.
Van Pelt accounted for 317 of San Marcos’ 377 yards.
