Wonderful Musical Memories of Paris
Those loyal patrons of the Los Angeles Philharmonic would fly anywhere to support their orchestra. Particularly Paris. They’ve been there since the end of September, and most returned home last week, though the orchestra played its last performance Saturday at the Stravinsky festival at Thea^tre du Cha^telet and returns to Los Angeles today, ending its four-week residency there.
We hear that along with concerts conducted by the Philharmonic’s Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and Pierre Boulez, there were cocktails with soprano Dawn Upshaw, a lead in Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress,” and private tours of the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay. Add a Cordon Bleu workshop, a four-hour trip to Giverny--well, it’s all been grand.
Philharmonic President Robert Attiyeh and his wife, Linda, attended the orchestra’s two private chamber concerts at the Intercontinental Hotel. Back with glorious memories were William Allison, Jan Corey, Ginny and John Cushman, Bob Egelston, Bernie and Lenore Greenberg, Jo and Bob Kroger, Donna and Joseph La Bonte, Elise Mudd Marvin and Henry Keck, Suzanne Marx, Astrid Rottman, Tom and Kay Stoever, Gerald Turbow, Beth Willard and lots more.
