Scenic View
Mulholland Drive is famous for its views. . . . And another jewel has been added to its treasures. The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy opened a new scenic overlook, the eighth on the road that winds through the Santa Monica Mountains. Atop a knoll less than a mile east of Coldwater Canyon Drive, it offers views of Fryman Canyon, Studio City and, on a clear day, all the region’s mountains.
True Believers
Seeking their first Big Sky Conference win, the Cal State Northridge football players wore “I believe” T-shirts under their uniforms Saturday at Weber State. . . . At halftime, down 21-7, their coach told them, “We still believe.” Sure enough, the Matadors came out and upset the Wildcats 35-28 (C14).
Idylls of Agoura
Chumash Indians, Spanish invaders, ranchers and a Basque sheepherder named Pierre Agoure--they’re all part of the colorful history of Agoura Hills, a city of scenic hillsides and oak trees named for the Basque (B2). . . . And the next chapter: The city is hoping for a second multiscreen theater complex.
Save a Stray
Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich is trying to save the county’s homeless pets--one at a time. . . . For 10 months he’s brought a stray animal to every board meeting. So far his record is perfect. Someone has taken each of the 64 dogs and cats--and one rabbit--that he has showcased as a way of promoting the county’s Adopt-A-Pet program.
