More Time Sought to Plan Truck Route
City officials will seek more time tonight to develop a regional truck route in coordination with neighboring communities.
Staff members will ask the City Council for more time to discuss with Irvine, Mission Viejo and the county new route possibilities.
A recent study by Lake Forest showed Bake Parkway traffic increasing almost 50% as motorists headed to surface streets to bypass construction to the nearby El Toro “Y” freeway interchange.
Irvine, Mission Viejo and the county have resisted establishing a regional route for trucks because traffic patterns will change when interchange improvements are completed in about a year.
In addition, Irvine city officials are worried that moving traffic from Bake Parkway would cause extra wear to their side streets.
