Forget “beautiful downtown Burbank.” It’s neighboring Glendale that’s attracting the country’s biggest names in politics. This summer, President Clinton paid a campaign visit to Glendale Community College. . . . And on Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole, accompanied by running mate Jack Kemp, will be on the stump at Glendale City Hall (B1).

But No Perot

Cal State Northridge, however, didn’t prove enough of a draw for third-party candidate Ross Perot. . . . Perot turned down an invitation from the student senate to speak on campus this week, saying he has spent enough time campaigning in California and plans to move on.

Legion of Honor

World War I veteran Paul H. Jarrett, above, was awarded France’s highest decoration, the medal of the Legion of Honor, at a ceremony Tuesday at the French Consulate in Los Angeles. The Woodland Hills centenarian was honored for his wartime heroics as a commander of U.S. Army Rainbow Division forces in France in 1918. . . . Jarrett, 101, said he was proud to accept the award “on behalf of all American soldiers.”
