County Property Tax Bills in the Mail

Share

Ventura County property owners can expect a greeting in the mail any day now from the county tax collector. That’s right, it’s that time of year again.

Property tax bills were mailed out Friday to 217,615 county property owners, Treasurer-Tax Collector Hal Pittman said. Bills may be paid in two installments, with the first due Nov. 1, Pittman said. There will be a 10% penalty included if the bill is not paid by 5 p.m. on Dec. 10. The second installment is due Feb. 1, with a similar delinquent charge if not paid by April 10.

The total tax amount billed this fiscal year is $503 million, up 1.1% over the previous tax year, he said. Among the top property taxpayers in the county are Southern California Edison, which owes $7.9 million, and Amgen Inc., with a $6.2-million bill.

The most efficient way to pay property taxes is by mail, because a canceled check is a taxpayer’s proof of payment, Pittman said. There is also a tax payment drop box outside the Hall of Administration. If property owners do not receive their tax bills within a few days, Pittman said they should call his office at 654-3744.
