Government’s Role to Be Seminar Focus
The World Affairs Council of Ventura County will host a seminar called “Taking Charge: Politics in the Information Age,” on Thursday at the Spanish Hills Country Club.
The discussion takes its title from a book coauthored by Morley Winograd.
In the book, Winograd discusses the changing role of government with co-author Dudley Buffa.
For example, they argue, at the conclusion of the American Revolution, the purpose of government was simply to protect life and property.
By the end of the Industrial Revolution, however, that role had shifted dramatically.
Even more dramatic changes are occurring in this century, they conclude. For example, 75% of Americans worked in a factory in 1950.
The number is fewer than 15% today, the authors say.
Tickets cost $18 for council members and $22 for nonmembers.
Tickets at the door will cost $28, with a light buffet included. For more information or to make reservations, call 449-9953.
