Gang Member Arrested in Alleged Kidnapping
A gang member suspected of kidnapping two teen-age girls at gunpoint in Bell Gardens was arrested Friday, police said.
Jose Napoles, 22, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping and held on $50,000 bail, said Bell Gardens Police Sgt. Tim Byers.
The girls, 15 and 16, managed to escape shortly after Napoles allegedly forced them into his car Oct. 11, Byers said.
Napoles apparently abducted the girls because he thought they knew who killed a fellow gang member earlier this year, Byers said.
Police arrested him about 4:30 a.m. at his home in Lakewood, where police recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the abduction, Byers said.
