Deacon Jones to Sign Autobiography
Pro football Hall of Famer and former Los Angeles Rams defensive end Deacon Jones will talk football and sign his autobiography at the Borders Books and Music store in Thousand Oaks on Tuesday.
Perhaps best known for his use of the head slap--an openhanded move to rattle a blocker’s helmet, a technique since ruled illegal--Jones was a pivotal football figure in the 1960s and ‘70s.
A member of the Rams’ Fearsome Foursome, Jones has received countless football accolades. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979--his first year of eligibility.
Beyond football’s glitz, Jones will discuss the game’s darker side--racial tension, long-standing grudges and abuse of painkillers.
After the presentation, Jones will sign his recently released autobiography, “Headslap.” Jones will speak at 7 p.m. at Borders, 125 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
