4.1 Earthquake Strikes Northwest of Ojai
A magnitude 4.1 earthquake, followed by several aftershocks ranging up to 3.6, shook a mountainous area eight miles northwest of Ojai in Ventura County at 3:09 p.m. Wednesday, Caltech scientists reported.
No damage or injuries were recorded in the thrust quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 miles, near the important Santa Ynez fault but not on it.
Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson said the quake, felt distinctly in the city of Ventura, was the strongest recorded in that vicinity in many years.
