Stanford-bound middle blocker Jenn Detmer made a surprise return for Thousand Oaks High, but Royal still had too much for the Lancers in a Marmonte League girls’ volleyball match Thursday night.

Nikki Guerra had 17 kills to lead the Highlanders (9-3, 8-2 in the league) to an 8-15, 15-3, 15-9, 15-7 victory at Royal.

Detmer, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, had been sidelined for a month because of mononucleosis and was not expected to return this season. She played only in the front row and had five kills for Thousand Oaks (7-4, 6-4).
