Right wing Valeri Karpov underwent precautionary tests and was released from St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn., after being knocked unconscious by a first-period hit from the Whalers’ Steven Rice.
“I’m fine,” Karpov said. “But any time somebody gets a concussion, it’s not good.”
Karpov was conscious and had full movement in his limbs when he was taken from the ice on a stretcher, but medical personnel stopped the game for more than five minutes to check him carefully before moving him.
Duck Coach Ron Wilson objected to the no-call, saying Rice threw an elbow.
