Clemens Will File for Free Agency
Roger Clemens is set to become a free agent. And the Boston Red Sox are willing to let him do so. The Red Sox are allowing their veteran right-hander to file for free agency and compare offers from other teams against what the Red Sox produce. . . . The Montreal Expos signed first baseman Pavel Budsky of the Czech Republic, believed to be the first player from the Eastern European country signed by a major league team. Budsky, 21, was discovered by an Expos scout at a baseball academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this summer.
