Colombia’s Champion Defeats the Galaxy, 3-2

Martin Zapata scored two goals and assisted on another as Colombian champion Deportivo Cali defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy, 3-2, in an exhibition Sunday in front of 12,723 at the Rose Bowl.

Zapata put Cali ahead in the eighth minute, heading in Edison Mafla’s corner kick, and scored again on a header off a Mafla free kick in the 76th minute.

Mafla scored Cali’s second goal in the 67th minute, beating goalkeeper David Kramer from close range.

The Galaxy got late goals from Harut Karapetyan off a Curt Onalfo pass in the 80th minute and from Chris Armas off a Guillermo Jara pass two minutes later.

Engelver Herrera scored in the 35th minute as Comunicaciones of Guatemala defeated Deportivo Olimpia of Honduras, 1-0, in an earlier game.
