Manhattan Bagel Opens First of Vons Shops

The first of seven full-production bagel shops opened Monday in the Vons supermarket at 1855 E. Cochran St. in Simi Valley. In the next six months, the Eatontown, N.J.-based company will open three more franchised shops in Vons or Pavilions stores in San Diego, as well as two others in Southern California. Bagels will be boiled and baked all day in the 450-square-foot Manhattan Bagel unit in Simi Valley, which also will sell breakfast and lunch. The agreement is Vons’ first partnership with a bagel franchise, and the supermarket will continue to sell its own line of bagels. Other franchises represented in Vons or Pavilions markets include Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Panda Express and Cinnabon.
