A 25-year-old man fatally injured this weekend in a suspected hit and run was identified Monday as Gonzalo Cornelio of Santa Ana.
Cornelio was in a crosswalk when he was struck at 9:16 p.m. Saturday by a van that did not stop for a red light at Townsend and West 1st streets, according to Police Sgt. Bob Clark. Cornelio died later that night at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
The driver, David Olivares Torres, 41, remained in custody Monday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and drunk driving, Clark said. Torres was arrested after an officer saw him driving on Harbor Boulevard shortly after the accident, Clark said.
