Program on Career, College Opportunities

Share

Focus on Careers, a free program featuring workshops on job-search strategies, resume writing and interviewing techniques, will be offered Wednesday at Mission College.

“The program provides an overview of career possibilities,” said Geri Shapiro, director of Mission’s New Horizons program. “It helps people to learn what Mission College has to offer as far as new careers, and also gives them access to representatives from the business community.”

In addition to the workshops, the biannual event will include representatives from Mission’s various academic programs, who will hand out information about educational and career opportunities. Officials from government agencies and businesses will also be available to answer questions and distribute employment information.

While Focus on Careers is not a job fair, Shapiro said some of the attending businesses and agencies will be looking for people to hire and enroll in management-training courses.

Participating organizations include the Los Angeles Police and Fire departments, Kaiser Permanente, the Coca-Cola Co., United Parcel Service, Radio Shack and others.

Focus on Careers will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is open to the public, Shapiro said.
