Investigators have tied a third man to the shooting death of a Brink’s security guard this week and continued searching for two armed suspects whose composite sketches were released Wednesday.

Authorities believe the third man, who has not been identified, drove the blue or gray getaway station wagon in which the suspects were last seen, Sheriff’s Lt. Fred Lisanti said.

Investigators interviewed dozens of people who saw the ambush in which two gunmen fatally shot Mark A. Smith, 39, Monday as he walked out of a Stanton supermarket with a satchel of money. They escaped with an undisclosed sum.

A description of the third suspect and his relationship with the gunmen were not available, authorities said.

A funeral for Smith, a former U.S. Marine, will be at 8:15 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress. A 21-gun salute will bid farewell to the man whom relatives called a hero, followed by memorial services. Smith will be buried in Riverside, relatives said.

Family members said donations to Smith’s trust fund can be sent to Brink’s Inc., 798 N. Batavia St., Orange, CA 92686.
