Clarence Leith “Scotty” Scott; Star Athlete, Country Doctor

Clarence Leith “Scotty” Scott, 92, a star athlete and war hero who served as a country doctor in Inyo County for nearly four decades. Born in Canada, Scott worked his way through UCLA by taking bit parts in movies and teaching. He was named all-American in hockey and speed skating champion of the Pacific Coast, and in 1975 was named a UCLA alumnus of the year. During World War II, Scott served as Army medical officer on Gen. George Patton’s staff, earning a Purple Heart, five battle stars and the French Croix de Guerre. During his medical practice near Bishop, he delivered more than 3,000 babies and set countless broken bones for skiers. He was active in several organizations and served as director of the Bishop Community Chorus. On Sunday in Laguna Hills.
