A Game of Comebacks for Henley and Kansas

June Henley returned from a one-game suspension to run for a season-high 226 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-31 victory over Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference game Saturday at Ames, Iowa.

Ben Rutz connected with Isaac Byrd for an eight-yard touchdown play on fourth and one with 2:13 left to produce the last of 10 lead changes and enabled Kansas, 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12, to end a losing streak at three games.

Henley was held out of the Jayhawks’ 63-7 loss to Nebraska a week ago after being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. He was reinstated last Monday and didn’t start Saturday. He entered the game on Kansas’ sixth play and scored on a five-yard run on his second carry.

Henley, who had 40 carries, also scored on runs of two and 11 yards to become the school’s single-season touchdown leader with 16.

Iowa State’s Troy Davis, the nation’s leading rusher, carried 33 times for 171 yards and one touchdown. That gave him a school-record 18 100-yard games, including 14 straight.

Iowa State is 2-6 and 1-4.

No. 7 Colorado 41, Missouri 13--Koy Detmer, playing a week after getting a concussion, passed for a school-record 457 yards and three long touchdowns at Columbia, Mo.

Detmer was knocked out in the second quarter of last week’s victory over Texas.

Rae Carruth had eight receptions for a school record-tying 222 yards and two touchdowns.

Colorado (7-1, 5-0 and a nation-best 10-game road win streak) has beaten Missouri (3-5, 1-4) 12 consecutive times.

Texas 28, Baylor 23--James Brown threw two touchdown passes to Pat Fitzgerald and Ricky Williams ran for two touchdowns as the Longhorns (4-4, 3-2) held on after taking a 21-0 lead at Austin, Texas.

Texas shook off a week of adversity surrounding four starting players who met with an agent last Sunday to beat Baylor (4-4, 1-4) for the fourth consecutive time.

Texas Coach John Mackovic held out receiver Mike Adams, cornerback Bryant Westbrook and safeties Tre Thomas and Chris Carter until midway through the second quarter. An investigation this week prompted the school to rule the players ineligible before the NCAA cleared them to play.

Texas A&M; 38, Oklahoma State 19--D’Andre Hardeman rushed for three second-half touchdowns for the Aggies (4-5, 2-3) at Stillwater, Okla.

David Thompson, one of the nation’s top rushers, was held to 43 yards in 25 carries for Oklahoma State (4-5, 1-5).
