King update--They have a five-game unbeaten streak (2-0-3) and have not lost since being crushed, 8-2, by the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 24. They are coming off a four-game East Coast trip during which they were 2-0-2 but easily could have won all four games. The Kings tied Ottawa and Boston, but had leads in the third period of both games. “We had very good success, but it could have been better,” Coach Larry Robinson said. Center Ray Ferraro has four goals in his last four games. Center Ian Laperriere has been out three games because of a shoulder injury but is expected to play tonight. Forward Craig Johnson did not play against the Bruins because of a groin injury and is questionable. Goaltender Stephane Fiset, who made several impressive saves in overtime at Boston, may not start in favor of Byron Dafoe, who defeated Toronto last week. The Kings have the second-best penalty killing unit in the NHL.

Canadien update--To bolster their defense, they picked up defenseman Murray Baron in a five-player deal with St. Louis last week. Saku Koivu, who played on Finland’s World Cup team, leads the team with seven goals and 11 assists. Goalie Jocelyn Thibault is on the injured reserve list because of a broken finger. Rookie goalie Jose Theodore has started the last three games, including Wednesday night against the Mighty Ducks.
