It wasn’t enough for the New Jersey Devils to just defeat the Detroit Red Wings again.

This time they didn’t even allow a goal as Martin Brodeur stopped 36 shots and the Devils handed the Red Wings their first regular-season shutout in 98 games with a 2-0 victory Wednesday at Detroit.

The Devils, who swept the Red Wings in the 1995 Stanley Cup finals, have won three of four meetings since.

“It’s really built into a good rivalry,” Brodeur said after his 13th career shutout. “We all know they want to get back at us.”
