Duck update--The defense has been atrocious, giving up a Western Conference-high 60 goals and leaving goaltender Guy Hebert with a 3.98 goals-against average. It’s the main reason for the Ducks’ league-low two victories. The offense has picked up since Paul Kariya’s return from an abdominal injury. He scored his first two goals of the season and had a team-record 12 shots on goal in the Ducks’ 6-5 loss to Montreal on Wednesday. Former Kings Warren Rychel and Kevin Todd are tied for second on the Ducks with five goals apiece.

King update--Count them among the big surprises of the season. Their grinding style has produced victories. Left wing Dimitri Khristich is among the league leaders with 13 assists and Stephane Fiset has stabilized the goaltending since he was acquired from Colorado during the off-season.
