Hollywood Park Casino Opens Bingo Parlor to Aid Charities
Local charities got a boost this week when Hollywood Park Casino opened the first bingo parlor in the South Bay at its Inglewood gaming facility.
The Hollywood Park Bingo Pavilion is a state-of-the-art parlor overlooking the racetrack. Open nightly, it features an electronic bingo system, two 55-inch television screens that display each number and theater-style seating for 1,000 people.
The pavilion was set up so that local charities would have a place to have bingo fund-raisers and is run by each nonprofit group for a rental fee of $625 to $2,500, determined by the time slot and the number of people who participate. St. Mary’s Academy in Inglewood has reserved the facility for Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The Inglewood Catholic high school used to have bingo in its gymnasium on Wednesday nights to raise scholarship money for the inner-city students who attend Inglewood’s only private high school.
Sister Nancy Munro said money raised from bingo has provided financial aid to more than half the students at the school.
The first night it held bingo at Hollywood Park, St. Mary’s tripled the amount of money it used to make.
