A 27-year-old man died Sunday after suffering severe head injuries in a fight in Santa Paula. It was the second homicide in eight days in the city, which hadn’t recorded any killings in the last two years.
Authorities said Antonio Rodriguez of Santa Paula was attending a party in the 1300 block of Saticoy Street, when he got into a fight. He was taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, and police were called to the hospital about 11:30 p.m. to investigate a battery victim.
Santa Paula Police Sgt. Wes Easley said that due to the extent of Rodriguez’s injuries he was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. He was pronounced dead shortly before 3 p.m.
Police said they are continuing to investigate but that other party-goers have been uncooperative.
On Nov. 2, 30-year-old Isabel Guzman was shot to death in an alley behind the restaurant she owned with her husband. Felix Magana, 50, of Santa Paula has been charged in that case.
