Detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department are searching for an 18-year-old Oxnard man suspected of the attempted murder of a 16-year-old boy in September.

Authorities allege the suspect, David Oliva, drove the youth to an isolated spot between Camarillo and Oxnard on the night of Sept. 26 with two other youths.

Then Oliva allegedly shot and stabbed the 16-year-old several times and left him for dead, said Capt. Larry Robertson, with the department’s major crimes division. An off-duty CHP officer saw the teenager and called paramedics, saving his life, Robertson said.

The youth, whose name is being withheld, underwent surgery and was in critical condition for several weeks before being released from the hospital, he said.

Detectives did not release specifics about the motive in the attack.

Oliva is described as stocky, at 5 feet, 11 inches and 230 pounds.

Officials said he is unemployed but is still likely to be in the area.

Anyone with information on Oliva’s whereabouts or about the crime is asked to call 654-2340. Tipsters can remain anonymous, Robertson said.
